Amazon.com Product Description Introducing the revolutionary BRK 9120 series smoke alarms which have been redesigned from the ground up. They install faster, perform better, and are even smarter than before. All of these improvements help reduce nuisance alarms and save you time and money. BRK Electronics smoke alarms are designed to be easy to install, easy to maintain, and quality-engineered for years of virtually maintenance-free service. The 9120B AC-powered smoke alarm with battery backup includes these features: - Ionization sensor which helps detect fast flaming fires that consume combustible materials rapidly.
- 120-volt AC inter-connectable (with maximum 18 compatible devices). The alarm can be interconnected with up to 12 other compatible smoke alarms and six compatible devices like bells, horns, repeaters and door closers. If one unit triggers an alarm, all smoke alarms in the series will sound. Power indicators show which unit in the series initiated the alarm.
- Latching alarm indicator which automatically identifies which unit initiated the alarm.
- Smart technology to reduce nuisance alarms.
- 9-volt battery backup for peace of mind during power malfunction.
- Single test/silence button which both silences a non-threatening alarm or low battery warning and allows you to test the unit's functionality.
- Perfect mount system including a gasketless base for easy installation and new mounting bracket that keeps the alarm secure over a wide rotation range to allow for perfect alignment.
- Mounting bracket lock for tamper resistance.
- Dust cover to keep unit clean during construction.
- 10-year limited warranty.
All BRK Electronics smoke alarms meet UL 217 standard and are listed with the California State Fire Marshal. They use the new UL mandated repeating 85-decibel alarm horn pattern. 10-year limited warranty. This unit is approved for sale in Oregon after new revisions on law HB2586.--Bree NorlanderWhat's in the Box One smoke alarm, one 9-volt battery, and user's manual

Great Product August 25, 2008 J. McGowan (Orlando, FL) I had an older version of this product that needed to be replaced. The new product was delivered when I expected and had all the parts I needed to install it. Installation was simple and straightforward.
Flimsy August 16, 2008 R. Miller (Reston, VA) My beef with this product is that the sliding compartment for the battery is very poorly made. It jams easily, breaks easily, and chips easily. The battery doesn't always hit the leads, even if you've gotten it in, so the thing keeps on chirping. It is difficult to change a battery without some kind of mishap, such as the battery not wanting to fit, or the compartment getting stuck at the base of the hinge. Some amount of force is often called for, but then you risk pieces of plastic breaking off. I've tried removing the alarm from its mounting just to make it easier to replace the battery, but at 4:00 a.m., this is just another major annoyance that should be necessary.
Piece of junk August 9, 2008 Kimoeagle (Angola, IN USA) I purchased this product under the name of First Alert Model SA300, which is distributed by BRK Brands in Aurora, IL. Less than a year ago, we installed this unit in our basement. Two nights ago, it chirped its 'low battery' signal. I de-mounted the unit and purchased a 9V alkaline battery. While attempting to re-install the replacement battery, I noticed just how cheaply the unit is made. The battery 'carousel' which opens to the side closes 'loosely'; as a result, the battery does not have an opportunity to make appropriate contact with the circuit board within. What I now have is a strange-looking paperweight which is good for nothing. In essence, I purchased a 'use it once, throw it away' product. Because of this dissatisfaction, I will not buy another First Alert product, and I intend to show our local Fire Department this defective unit.
Absolutely terrible excuse for a safety product July 19, 2008 Will (Easton, MD United States) The 9120B does not work properly. I have a dozen of these junk units installed in new construction by our builder. As mentioned in other reviews, it gives repeated false alarms in the wee hours of the night, presumably--according to the manufacturer--due to AC power fluxuations. The battery compartment is extremely difficult to fit a battery into and this thing goes through batteries like a cheap toy. The manual in incorrect regarding LED and beep codes. I am mad; the time is currently 4:23AM and I cannot get back to sleep from another random, middle of the night BRK false alarm. There is a ladder (just in case it goes off yet again) in my bedroom and a pile of brand new batteries on my dresser that this junk unit did not like. Ask yourself this: Why should a power fluxuation make it go off? Isn't that precisely why the battery is there? That is why they call it battery backup. We need to put the whole lot of these on a boat back to China!
Junk June 18, 2008 Richar Pearce (Ko Olina, Hawaii) My house is a two year "upscale" with these placed in varying areas throughout. Just about all have had the "false alarm" chirping. I have replaced the batteries to no avail. Don't waste your money on them!
