Does the yob. January 31, 2010 Born2Late (New York, USA) I've a small face. It's hard to find masks that fit correctly. Because of the elastic straps, these do OK. I use them in a clinical (nursing) setting. W/O an exhaust valve, they are very uncomfortable after 30mins. They do the job. All masks like this are uncomfortable w/o exhaust valves. I'll buy more when these run out.
3M 8210 Particulate Respirator December 28, 2009 Melton C. Ambrose (Florence, AL) Respirators are great for use when getting up leaves or mowing the lawn. I use them regularly during fall for my lawn business. The straps are not durable for long-term use, but usually last as long as the mask stays breatheable. The straps need to be stretched evenly before the mask is first put on or it may seem too tight. One at a time stretch each strap a section of the strap at a time. Much better than the single strap nuisance respirators. Price was awesome on an open box. Wish I had ordered two of them.
quality December 15, 2009 lightstream It fits well, easy to breath, filters fiberglass particles from the attic and sawdust from power saw very well.
I don't think I'd hesitate to use one of these for flu protection, it would definitely be better than most of what's out there.
Talking with one on sounds funny, like you're wearing a mask. :o
A great thing to have! December 1, 2009 mom-of-three (MD) This mask is pretty snug and comfy. The box came in slightly torn and opened, but all the respirators were intact in their bag.
If your getting this to keep from catching the H1N1.... November 29, 2009 A. Streiff (Duluth, MN) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
... it didn't protect our family (and I really wanted it to) :(
I went to the CDC website, did a months worth of research into everything we could do as a family to not catch this flu. I bought a box of these masks, a box of medical gloves, literally GALLONS of hand sanitizers, and every kind of over the counter medicine to help boost our immune systems to keep from catching this flu.
After much diligence (I even took my kids out of school for a few days when a kid in their class came down with it), it still found a way to hit our whole family.
My husband came down with it first. Once he was home sick, the whole family used these masks, including him. I figured we would have even less chance of him spreading the germs if he wore one too. Between the masks, gloves and obsessive surface sanitizing, we all managed to keep from getting it for about 6 days. Then I caught it. A few days later both of my kids caught it. Then a few days after them, both my parents caught it (they helped watch my kids at their house while I was sick). We all wore these masks religiously, but the close, daily contact with people in the household who were sick was too much and it found a way through.
We were tested and found it to be the H1N1. We all had different degrees of severity to the illness. My mother became ill fast and was rushed to the ER by ambulance. My father developed such a bad cough he ended up with a hernia and will need to surgically repaired. Myself and my kids were placed on Tamiflu (which to warn you, can make you very sick to your stomach), my husband however recovered after a mere 5 days (the rest of us it took weeks to get better).
The ONLY thing that ever worked was the Emergen-C drink, used to boost the immune system. Our flu's hung on for weeks and no amount of prescribed medications (Tamiflu, antibiotics, steroids) would make it go away. But as soon as we started taking that, we all got better FAST. I don't know if it would have prevented catching the flu, but it finally gave our body some ability to fight it.
I gave this mask 5 stars because it's a great mask. This mask was not manufactured to prevent the spread of viruses, so I can not take away from it's rating because it did not do so for us. You can really tell that it is filtering the air. It even filters out smells. Once you figure out how to get the mask to set right on your face and the straps in a good spot on your head, it stays put. I would even use these masks again if some other virus came around and I needed to try and prevent catching it. Every little bit helps, it was just too much this time around. This virus just seems to be super contagious. I'm not saying it definitely wont work for you, it just didn't work for the 6 of us.
