After months of searching for a easy Randon Gas measurement and detection I finally found this product. It seems to work fine, assuming that is properly measuring what is says it can do. All other products in the market you have to send a sample taken by mail to some laboratory to get a result.

I live in Colorado, which is known to have radon. The house faces 2 earth surfaces (ground and backwall of 1st floor) and has some crawl spaces with uncovered dirt. It's an old log cabin, built in a time and area lacking builiding codes, so there's a lot wrong with it. I considered buying a kit, but soon realized that a one time kit wouldn't be that helpful. I wanted to test multiple places in the home and have a chance to monitor radon levels after doing mitigation. So, yes, the radon was 12 pCi/L on the ground floor. Yes, covering one dirt floor crawl space with concrete and installing a radon fan and piping did decrease the radon levels in 1/2. Now, just have to work on the other crawl spaces and see if that brings it down below 4. Good investment for the money, even if you have to calibrate once a year at $75.

I purchased this after I bought a house where the radon level on my inspection was 3.9. I wanted to see where we were for a while before calling in a company for remediation. This device showed a reading of over 4 for about 2 months, so I called a reputable radon company to do a final test ($50) before fixing the issue. Reading from the radon company was 1.7, while this device read 4.4.

The device is very well constructed and remarkably, "Made in the USA". The unit allows for short term and long term readings, as radon levels vary seasonally, and over time. I have carefully followed the unit readings and on average, it pretty much tracks the readings I received from a few random charcoal canister tests performed at different times during the year. I have a large basement and noticed that levels seem to vary even in different areas of the basement,so I will likely buy more of these units in the future. If you use the basement as living space (as I do) ,this device is a must. Very accurate and highly recommended.
One question I do have that perhaps other can comment on - the instructions recommend an annual calibration for commercial use, optional for home use...If anyone knows how often this calibration is really needed, I would appreciate the feedback.
