Master Lock 4680DNKL TSA-Combination Lock August 18, 2010 JAC- N/Central WI (WI United States) I disagree with reviews that say it is hard to line up the numbers and that it took them a long time to set the combination. It MAY have taken 5 minutes to read the instructions and set the combination on the first lock but I had all 7 locks that I bought done within 20 minutes and I had no problem reading the numbers even though I have a hard time reading small print and anything up close. I wouldn't put anything valuable in my checked luggage anyway so they definitely do what they are intended to do - "DETER" thieves that are looking for "EASY" access. I don't believe that they guarantee protection from dishonest or lazy TSA inspectors. They may not deserve a "5 star" rating but they deserve at least a "4 1/2" star rating for their intended use and very reasonable price. If these aren't good enough for you, you might want to consider shipping your belongings in a safe.
TSA broke it open March 9, 2010 Florian Wahl (@home) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this lock to meet the TSA regulations.
Unfortunately the lock was gone when I arrived at my destination.
All I found was a TSA notice they had inspected the bag and broke the lock.
Maybe they didn't know how to open it...
It worked for a while ... January 19, 2010 Christine M. Hartman (Houston, TX USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It worked great for dozens of trips. But it quit working this weekend - I now have a locked suitcase. The combination no longer works and I will have to use a hacksaw to remove it. It is a good thing that I am at home and not on a vacation. If I were on vacation I would probably have to cut the suitcase open because I wouldn't have a hacksaw!
Shank could be longer December 30, 2009 SZQ My previous lock had a longer shank which I really miss. Otherwise this lock is fine quality.
Note that you dont get to select the color that you want.
There are much better locks than this May 18, 2009 Just a guy (Westchester, NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If your goal is to keep things closed and have a visual theft deterrent, this is probably fine. As far as actually provinding protection, this lock can be easily defeated with the smallest of hack saws. The shank does not even lock into the body of the lock - it just dead-ends into a 2mm deep bowl on the top of the lock. Also, the three number combination can easily be cracked - when you realize that numbers on either side of the number selected are also triggered. That is, if you need to select 4, both 3 and 5 will also work.
Finally, as stated below, this lock is lacking the ability to see if the TSA opened your bag.
On the plus side, the set your own combination feature worked fine.
